Chevrolet customers will soon experience a whole new level of assurance thanks to this industry-leading predictive technology. For now, this system will focus on the battery, starter motor, and fuel pump - all of which are crucial elements in starting and running a vehicle. General Motors plans on adding additional vehicle parts and components into the mix in future model years.
So, how exactly does this technology work? Well for starters, OnStar 4G LTE connectivity plays a leading role. This prognostic service relies on OnStar 4G LTE to stream data from the sensors within the vehicle. Once the customer has enrolled their vehicle in this service, all data is sent to OnStar's secure servers where proprietary algorithms are applied to determine the issue at hand, and if it will impact the vehicle's performance. Once assessed, notifications are then sent to the customer via email, text message, in-vehicle alerts, or through the OnStar RemoteLink smartphone application.
General Motors' prognostic technology that will be able to predict your vehicle's future service needs is expected to appear on select 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, Suburban, Tahoe, Corvette, Silverado, and Silverado HD models that are equipped with certain powertrains. Stay tuned!
