Making Officer Jalisha's Wish Come True

 

ST. LOUIS, Miss - Yesterday, Thursday, May 28th, Don Brown Chevrolet was given the privilege of spending the day with an extraordinary little lady. Jalisha is 14-years-old and has an end stage renal disease. She longs to become a Police Officer when she grows up. She wants to ride in a police car, wear an official police uniform, arrest the bad guy, save the day and be rewarded with people cheering for her. Alongside Make-a-Wish Missouri, the St. Louis County Police Department, Maggiano's Little Italy, Truman's Place Soulard, NC4 Inc., the St. Louis Rams, the St. Louis Blues and the St. Louis Cardinals, we were able to Make Officer Jalisha's Wish Come True. 

Jalisha's day started like any other as she made her way to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center yesterday morning for a doctor's appointment. Rather than going into an exam room, Jalisha was picked up by a helicopter and headed to the St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy for her first stop of the day -police training. Jalisha was presented with a police uniform and official badge. Shortly after she completed her Defensive Tactics exam, a handcuffing tutorial and interaction with a K9 unit, Jalisha received an important call from Mayor Francis Slay's office. All three St. Louis sports mascots -Rampage, Louie and Fredbird - were being held hostage! It was Jalisha's job to search for clues and interview witnesses to solve the case!

After interviewing witnesses and gathering all the information she needed at the Edward Jones Dome, Scottrade Center, Ballpark Village and FoxSports Midwest, Jalisha finally made her way to Busch Stadium where she found the missing mascots and handcuffed the culprit: the Rally Squirrel himself, Jim Hayes from Fox Sports Midwest! Jalisha's fans were gathered around cheering and celebrating her work –Jalisha's wish had finally come true. After plenty of photos and interviews, Don Brown drove Jalisha and friends to Maggiano's Little Italy for dinner. The St. Louis County Chief of Police, Jon Belmar, and County Executive Charlie Dooley, presented her with a token of appreciation.

2015 Impala Offering Standard Stop/Start Technology

ST. LOUIS, Miss - Chevrolet has officially announced that the 2015 Impala Will Offer Standard Stop/Start Technology, a few steps behind the Chevy Malibu which acquired the enhancements late last year. The full-size sedan is equipped with the base 2.50-liter four cylinder engine, improving the Impala's fuel economy by nearly 5 percent, or virtually one mile per gallon. The Standard Stop/Start system shuts down the engine when it would regularly be idling, then kicks it back on when the driver hits the accelerator. This type of technology is continuing to grow more and more popular and General Motors believes sales of start/stop vehicles will rise from 8.8 million in 2013 to 55.4 million in 2022. 

GM's eAssist system has helped engineers obtain the knowledge needed to improve the start/stop system. GM engineers made it a point to have the shutdown/start sequence appear and feel effortless to the driver. The engineers created algorithms for "change-of-mind events" -for instance, when the driver begins to stop and then suddenly accelerates- as well as programmed the system to evaluate the cabin temperature, humidity, battery charge and other factors when opting to turn off the engine. Expected to go on sale this summer, the 2015 Impala Offering Standard Stop/Start Technology will return an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 22 mpg/city and 31 highway, and 25 combined mpg.

GM Totals 401 EV Charge Stations at U.S. Facilities

ST. LOUIS, Miss - Due to growing employee demand, General Motors now Totals 401 EV Charge Stations at numerous U.S. Facilities. A large portion of the stations are located at General Motors's large engineering and corporate facilities in Michigan, where the amount of electric vehicle ownership is readily growing. Each of these charging stations are completely free of charge for both GM employees and visitors. GM is very committed to raising awareness and encouraging employees to use EV vehicles. What better place to start than the workplace itself? After more and more employees are able to see first hand just how simple it is to plug in at the office and the amount of fuel savings that come with an E; the Chevy Volt will be the hottest commodity.

Alongside the workplace charging stations, GM also has 400 other charge spots that are used exclusively for vehicle development and testing. There are roughly 5,900 charge stations at Chevrolet and Cadillac dealerships for owner use -17 of the dealers are actually using the solar charging canopies! As apart of GM's corporate sustainability plan, they are looking for employees to be apart of the change. GM Totals 401 EV Charge Stations at U.S. Facilities, but the company is not stopping there. General Motors is in the works to get other employer partners on board to join in their sustainability challenge!

Grilling Tips and Recipes for Your Memorial Day BBQ

Safe Grilling Practices:

• Get Your Grill HOT: Be sure to preheat your grill 15 to 25 minutes prior to cooking. Doing this will ensure that your grill reaches the appropriate temperature and kills any bacteria. The grill should be around 400-450°F for high, 350-400°F for medium-high, 300-350°F for medium and 250-300°F for low heat. 
• Good Grooming is Necessary: Be sure to brush off debris when the grill is hot. Once the grill is preheated, use a long-handled grill brush to clean off the charred debris from prior usage. Don't forget to scrap the grill off immediately after use!
• Don't Forget the Oil: Lean foods may stick even to the cleanest of grills. Reduce sticking by rubbing a vegetable oil-soaked paper towel on the grill with your tongs. **Do NOT use cooking spray on a hot grill!**
• Let Your Meat Chill Out: Once your meat has finished cooking, let it rest on a clean plate and cover with foil for about 10 minutes. Doing so will help the juices in the meat redistribute evenly, YUM!

LOUIS, Miss - Demand for the 2015 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban Go Beyond Expectations, with the average turn over rate, also known as how quickly it takes for a vehicle to sell after it has been delivered to the dealer, at 17 days for the Tahoe and 10 days for the Suburban.  Both of the 2015 models have upped their quality, technological features and fuel efficiency, while maintaining highly impressive towing capabilities. Given the turn over rate and Tahoe's 108.4 percent and Suburban's 109.8 percent retail sales increases, Chevrolet was able to hold virtually 50 percent of the full-sized SUV market!

Pricing for Chevy's CNG-Capable 2015 Impala Announced

ST. LOUIS, Miss - Finally, the pricing for Chevy's CNG-capable 2015 Impala has been announced! The 2015 CNG-Capable Impala is the industry's FIRST full-size sedan in North America that is able to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) and gasoline. This bi-fuel Impala will be available in the fourth quarter to fleet and retail customers in a LS base trim or a higher-equipped LT trim. The starting price for this fuel-saving vehicle is $38,210, including an $825 destination charge, but excluding tax, title, license, dealer fees and operational equipment. 

Vehicles that run on CNG produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions than those vehicles powered by gasoline. Natural gas is actually one of the cleanest-burning fuels available to us! Adding that on top of average fuel savings of virtually $1.25 per gasoline-gallon-equivalent -given the latest price in gasoline- and you've got yourself one insanely efficient vehicle. The Impala is said to run essentially on CNG, then once the contains in the fuel tank have been used up, the system instantly switches to run on gasoline. If a driver wants to change fuels while driving, they can do so with the push of a button found on the dashboard. Drivers won't notice any variation in the vehicle's performance as their vehicle flawlessly transitions from one fuel source to another.

Sinkhole May Stay as an Attraction at National Corvette Museum

ST. LOUIS, Miss - The 40-foot wide, 60-foot deep Sinkhole May Stay as an Attraction at the National Corvette Museum. Why turn this Corvette-swallowing disaster into an exhibit? Well, the museum has noticed that since the incident, attendance has been up over 50 percent. The sinkhole, and eight vehciles that were pulled out of it, intrigues car fanatics from all over. With such a rise in curiosity, the National Corvette Museum is deeply considering leaving the sinkhole as is. The museum has said that the Sinkhole May Stay as an Attraction, whether it is a portion or all of it with a bridge over top, stairs go down it or a glass floor lies over top so visitors can look down. Plans are in the works between the museum, construction company and engineers as we speak.

As of right now, visitors can view the hole from behind a plexiglass viewing area. The eight cars that fell into the hole are on display outside of the Skydome room until June, when they will be sent off to GM's Heritage Collection, located in Warren, Michigan. According to the National Corvette Museum, they believe four of the cars will be salvageable and some of the others may have to stay alongside the sinkhole display in the future.
