Corvette's New Eight-Speed Transmission to get 30/MPG

ST. LOUIS, Miss - Typically, when you hear the word Corvette you would not think fuel-efficient. Well according to General Motors, we just may be able to put the two together. The Corvette's New Eight-Speed Transmission is expected to get 30/MPG and is set to debut in the 2015 Corvette Z06. This just may be the final element in facilitating fuel efficiency in Chevrolet performance vehicles!

The Corvette's New Eight-Speed Transmission that is expected to get 30/MPG is the final piece of the puzzle, according to a recent report from the Society of Automotive Engineers. General Motors is sure that the new 8L90 eight-speed transmission will be able to provide 30 mpg for Corvette drivers. This transmission improves efficiency up to 5 percent from the current 6L80 six-speed that is currently in the Corvette Stingray. The eight-speed transmission is not only 8 pounds lighter than the six-speed, it also shifts 0.8 seconds quicker than the Porsche 911 dual-clutch transmission.

This enhanced transmission is set to debut in the 2015 Corvette Z06 and we will hopefully see the standard car adopt the new transmission for the 2016 model year. No Slipping and Sliding for the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

ST. LOUIS, Miss - No Slipping and Sliding for the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28; the fastest and most track-capable Camaro of all time. Achieving such a significant perform took plenty of brainstorming and testing from exceptional Chevrolet engineers. During testing, engineers noticed that the tires were providing such a significant amount of traction and the brakes so much force that the wheel actually rotated inside the tire. This prompted Chevrolet engineers to think of a quick fix. 

To fix this rotation issue, the Chevy experts marked one of the Pirelli P Zero™ Trofeo R tires with a chalk line to the valve stem on the wheel. By the end of the lap, the team noted where the chalk line ended up, noticing it rotated a full 360 degrees from where it initially started. First, a racing technique was used to try to prevent slipping. This involved applying an abrasive paint where the tire meets the rim. This wasn't enough to prevent rotation, so Chevrolet turned to a media-blasting. This involves shooting a gritty material through an air gun at the wheel's surface, which adds texture to the paint for the tire to grip to. The extremely aggressive grip that media-blasting provided did just the trick, holding the tire in place.

How to Prepare Your Car for Spring

Check your fluid levels: Which fluids need your attention? Well, your oil, transmission fluid, brake and power steering fluids, and coolant need to be checked and replenished, when necessary, at a minimum of once every couple of months. Doing so can save you money in the long run!

Assess your tires: Get the most out of your tires by keeping them in good shape! It really is that simple. Be sure to rotate and balance your tires to ensure even tread wear, and keep your tires properly inflated! We would suggest keeping a tire pressure gauge in your car so you can self-assess your tires at anytime.

Check your belts: Your vehicle's belts might be weakened by the cold weather we've encountered this winter, and can cause them to snap or break. Since spring has finally arrived, this is the perfect time to bring your car into Don Brown Chevrolet for a check-up! A flawless data connection for the Chevrolet AppShop is possible thanks to high-speed 46 LTE, which will make it possible for most Chevrolet vehicles to turn up the beats!

Chevy customers will soon be able to pump up the jams with Beats Music by downloading the app through the Chevrolet AppShop. This application gives customers access to an unbelievable amount of music from every genre that they are able to enjoy while cruising around in their vehicle. Users who who have a trail or paid Beats Music account are able to stream their personalized playlists or one of the playlists created by a music industry professional through the Chevy 4G LTE system. Unlike the standard application, the features on the in-vehicle Beats Music app that require a significant amount of attention will be unavailable while the vehicle is in motion.  

If you're familiar with Beats Music or are looking to give the new application a try, you can find the same features that are offered on your smartphone on the in-car version. Fan favorites like the "Just For You" recommendations or "Highlights" staff recommendations are both accessible through the in-car application. Remember, any playlists you create or have saved on your smartphone can be streamed through the in-car app, this includes the ability to choose one of the playlists customized for certain drive times - like a Sunday cruise or a traffic jam.

First 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Will Benefit Karmanos Cancer Institute

ST. LOUIS, Miss - There is some exciting news to be heard about the very first retail production of Chevy's most track-capable Corvette of all time. The First 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Will Benefit Karmanos Cancer Institute after being auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson event in Palm Beach this coming April. Chevrolet is donating the all-new Corvette to support the Karmanos Cancer Institute's Annual Dinner. All of the proceeds from the auction will go towards the Institute's renovation of their infusion center; where they are hoping to provide a more comforting atmosphere for patient's chemotherapy treatments. 

General Motor's has been a long-time supporter of the Karmanos Cancer Institute - one of 41 other National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. GM President and his wife, Pernilla, will actually be chairing Karmanos Cancer Institute's 32nd Annual Dinner on Saturday, April 26th. The General Motors Foundation has also announced their donation of a $400,000 grant to support the Institute's cancer research in honor of the Annual Dinner.

2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Says Goodbye Bowtie and Hello Flowtie!

ST. LOUIS, Miss - In order to create an impeccable track performance lap after lap, it took some critical technological development from Chevrolet team. How it did happen? With a few surprising methods, the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Says Goodbye Bowtie and Hello Flowtie - making for the most capable and fastest Camaro to ever hit the track.

After continuous testing, the Chevy team examined the Camaro Z/28 inside and out looking for ways to improve track performance. Once one of the engineers noticed the Chevy Bowtie's placement on the grille, an immediate big lightbulb went off. Removing the Bowtie itself was never an option, but with a little creativity came the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Said Goodbye Bowtie and Hello Flowtie! The Flowtie is just the chrome outline of the traditional Bowtie, which leaves the center open and allows for three additional cubic meters of air into the engine per minute. This allows for the engine coolant and oil temperatures to drop by 2 degrees, improving the Camaro's overall track performance!

Chevy Sinkhole Survivor Drives into the National Corvette Museum

ST. LOUIS, Miss - After the tragic sinkhole incident last month at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the recovery of the eight historic Corvettes has begun. Fortunately, two of the eight vehicles were able to be pulled up from the 30-foot deep hole this past Monday. The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1"Blue Devil" was actually able to be driven back into the doorway of the museum's Skydome.

A Chevy sinkhole survivor drives into the National Corvette Museum with minimal damage despite its long free fall into the 30-foot deep sinkhole. The only major damage is cosmetic- the carbon fiber running boards are shattered- and the rest is simply minor paint damage and a crack in the windshield. A split in the oil-supply line for the 6.2L LS9 V-8 engine would need to be fixed, in which case the car would then be able to drive as far as Detroit!

The other vehicle extracted from the sinkhole was a 1993 40th anniversary model Corvette. There was a great deal of cosmetic damage to the hood, fenders, and window glass. However, there was only minimal mechanical damage. According to John Spencer, manufacturing integration manager for Corvette, "the 40th Anniversary looks much worse than it really is" and the Corvette "is definitely salvageable". Within the next 60 days, the team plans to retrieve the remaining vehicles from the hole. All of the recovered cars will be sent to the Mechanical Assembly facility. This small speciality shop is based in Warren, Michigan and technicians there will decide the best restoration approach.

ST. LOUIS, Miss - Chevrolet makes another huge advertising debut during the telecast of the 2014 Oscars event on Sunday, March 2nd. Chevrolet's Latest Oscar "Filmmaker"Ad also happened to be the winner of Chevy's contest for independent filmmakers. Not only did it feature the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, the entire ad follows suit with the brand's "Find New Roads" beliefs - the perfect parallel to what filmmaking is really all about.

This short film entitled "Masterpiece" won Chevy's contest for independent filmmakers. South Korean independent filmmaker, Jude Chun, was chosen over the other 72 submissions from around the world.
